Ducklings 1 to 5
Children develop water confidence through play and movement, leading to the natural development of swimming skills and the pleasure of being in the water. Parents also learn by assisting and helping in the water during lessons.
National Teaching Plan Stage 1
This Stage is suitable for those who have either completed the Beginners class or are confident in the water. It works towards safe entries and exits, submerging with open eyes, forming streamline positions in the water by learning how to push and glide and to swim a distance of 5 metres on the front and back with assistance.
National Teaching Plan Stage 2
In this level, the skills from Stage 1 will be consolidated and children will be working towards kicking proficiently and swimming 5 metres on front and back without the use of swimming aids. Push and Glides will also be emphasised in this Stage as it is the basis of all strokes
National Teaching Plan Stage 3
The emphasis now moves from learning how to get into a stream line position to how this can be used with all strokes. In this Stage pupils will work towards swimming 10 metres on the front and the back without assistance and also towards swimming breaststroke for 10 metres with the assistance of floats or noodles.
National Teaching Plan Stage 4
Children will now start to feel completely comfortable and at home in the water. Pupils will be expected to start using recognised technique and the beginnings of the Butterfly stroke will be introduced.
National Teaching Plan Stage 5
Focus is now making stroke technique efficient and also builds on pupils stamina so they are ready to move to lengths in Stage 6. Skills that will be beneficial in the 5 disciplines begin to become more apparent to pupils.
National Teaching Plan Stage 6
Pupils now will Swim lengths in all their classes, as their technique has become more efficient their breathing also needs to be effective, this is taught in this Stage as well as swimming with clothes on and learning how to perform a 'shout and signal' rescue.
National Teaching Plan Stage 7
Stage 7 is the last stage before the pupil can decided upon a discipline to pursue. In this stage pupils are expected, upon completion to be able to swim 50 metres showing efficient technique in all strokes. They will also have to perform all types of touch turns and a tumble turn.
Synchro Stages 8, 9 and 10
For Stages 8,9 and 10 of Synchronised swimming pupils will learn how to put routines together to music, perform different recognised Synchronised techniques. Pupils will need to be confident under the water, good at treading water and have the ability to perform somersaults in the water.
Waterpolo Stages 8, 9 and 10
In the Waterpolo discipline, pupils will learn the basic skills needed to be a strong waterpolo player. They will also learn the rules of the game and play matches against each other. Pupils taking part in waterpolo will have to be strong at treading water and have good aim and technique of passing and shooting a ball. Fantastic for those that enjoy team games.
Diving Stages 8, 9 and 10
The diving disciplines are bound to be popular with most children! Within the diving discipline pupils will learn different types of entry, rotation and body extension. This course can form the foundation for a pupil that wishes to move onto a diving club.
Competitive Stages 8, 9 and 10
The Competitive disciplines will work on pupils technique which will help them swim further distances with greater ease and in quicker times. Pupils will also learn how to perform racing starts and correct turns for each stroke. This discipline will suit those that love to swim distances or wish to progress to a swim club and compete in swim competitions.
